About Baku
Is Baku a medical treatment?
No. Baku is a wellness app built on imagery rehearsal, the method the American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommends for nightmares. It does not diagnose or treat any condition and does not replace a doctor or therapist. If your nightmares are tied to trauma, please work with a professional too; Baku can sit alongside therapy.
Do I have to relive my nightmare?
No. You only tap the moment where you would like the dream to turn, then write how it goes instead. You never have to write the whole nightmare down, and we suggest starting with a milder one while you learn the method.
How soon could I notice a difference?
Research suggests many people find their nightmares come less often or feel less intense within a few weeks of rehearsing a new ending for about 10 to 20 minutes a day. Everyone is different. We will share Baku’s own results once we have measured them, and not before.
When can I use Baku?
Baku is coming to iPhone and Android. We are starting with a small private beta for people who have nightmares often, then opening to everyone. Join the waitlist and we will write when it is ready.
Will Baku tell me what my dreams mean?
Not in the fortune-telling sense. We never claim a dream predicts the future or that a symbol means something bad will happen. The Guide reflects on a dream through the lenses you choose (science, psychology, traditions), and the Dream Atlas explains what research can and cannot say.
Which languages does Baku speak?
English and German, both from launch, with French after that. Every language is written by people, not machine-translated.
Nightlight and the night
Is the 3 a.m. mode really free?
Yes, forever. Nightlight, with its breathing, back-to-sleep audio and the 20-second voice note, is free. It works offline and never asks you to sign in, pay or read anything at night.
Does Baku work without an internet connection?
Yes. Nightlight, morning capture and your evening ritual all work offline, and everything you save syncs when you are back online. Only the Guide and the Atlas need a connection.
Does Baku work with my watch or ring?
Yes, if you would like it to. On iPhone Baku reads sleep from Apple Health, and on Android from Health Connect, so most watches and rings work through them, including Apple Watch, Garmin, Fitbit, Samsung and Withings when their app shares sleep with your phone. WHOOP and Oura can also connect directly. Baku only reads sleep times and stages, heart rate variability, resting heart rate and breathing rate during sleep. It never writes anything back, and you can disconnect at any time. Wearable sleep stages are estimates, so Baku shows them as approximate.
Privacy and your data
Who can read my dreams?
Only you. Dreams are private by default, can be locked behind Face ID or your fingerprint, and are never sold or used for advertising. You can export everything or delete your account at any time; deletion becomes final after a 30-day grace period. Entries you mark “keep private from AI” never reach the Guide.
How do I delete my account?
In the app, open Settings and tap Delete my account under Your data. Your account is inactive for 30 days, in case you change your mind, and then deleted for good with everything in it. No longer have the app? Write to support@baku.care from the address you use for Baku. Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription; cancel it in the App Store or Google Play. The steps are on the account deletion page.
How does the AI Guide use my entries?
The Guide only reads an entry when you ask it to reflect, tidy or help you write. The text is sent through our servers to our AI provider to answer you and is not used to train models. You can see and delete what the Guide remembers about you, or switch it off entirely.
Where is my data stored?
In Switzerland. Our database runs in Supabase’s Zurich region, and every company that processes data for us has a data processing agreement. Dreams and sleep data count as health data, so we ask for your explicit consent before storing them.
Plans and partners
What does Baku Plus cost?
Plus is 59.99 a year with a 7-day free trial, or 9.99 a month without one. Plus Family, for you and up to five others on iPhone through Apple Family Sharing, is 89.99 a year with the same trial. We remind you before the trial ends, and you can cancel any time in the App Store or Google Play. Nightlight, the journal, voice capture, the moon calendar and your first rewrite stay free.
Can my partner use Baku with me?
Yes. Your partner joins free with an invite code. They can record a voice for 3 a.m., leave bedtime notes and, if you allow it, see a shared count of calm nights. They never see what you dream unless you share it yourself.
Safety
Is Baku for children?
Not yet. At launch Baku is for people aged 16 and over in Switzerland, the EU and the UK, and 13 and over elsewhere. Children’s nightmares need a parent-led approach, and a guide for parents is on our list.
What if I am in crisis?
Baku is not a crisis service. If you are in danger or thinking about harming yourself, call your local emergency number now, or a crisis line such as 143 in Switzerland, 0800 111 0 111 in Germany, 988 in the US or 116 123 in the UK. If something you write in the app suggests you are in crisis, Baku shows local help straight away.
